Osijek sits on the Drava River and is Croatia's fourth-largest city; during Ottoman rule (1526-1687) it was known as Ösek, and in 1566 Suleiman the Magnificent had an 8-kilometre bridge of boats built across the river. Osijek Airport sits in the village of Klisa, roughly 15-20 km from the centre depending on the source; shuttle arrangements vary, so taxis are the most reliable option.
