Daily life

Craiova was the historic centre of the Oltenia region and seat of its bans (provincial governors); in 1593 Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul) became Ban here before later uniting the three Romanian principalities as a national hero. Sculptor Constantin Brâncuși studied at the city's Art School between 1894 and 1898 and carved his first works there. Daily planning moves around the suspension bridge and lake of Nicolae Romanescu Park, considered Romania's second-largest park and winner of a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition.
